J.R.R. Tolkien wrote in The Hobbit, about how Bilbo Baggins left his comfortable home for an adventure that forever changed his life. C.S. Lewis wrote about how four young children crossed though the wardrobe into Narnia. Abram left his father and country. The disciples of Jesus left everything for something they had never done before.

Our journey might involve a physical relocation, but it will definitely require a spiritual one. Often we read the accounts of how Jesus collected his twelve disciples and think that He just “happened along” and called them to follow Him. But what we can see is that Jesus made connections with them well before He called them.

So when He made the offer “follow me” they all understood that what Jesus was asking them to do next was far greater than what He was asking them to let go of.
