The mockingbird is well known for mimicking the songs of other birds. But are we all that different?

We have all heard children repeat or parrot words spoken by a parent. If you’re alive, you’ve heard news castors repeating someone else’s words over and over again as if it were news. Generally, we are considered a mockingbird if we are fake or don’t have anything original to say.

But what do you do with Ephesians 5:1 then?

The apostle Paul was encouraging us to be “imitators” of Christ, like innocent children looking up toward their source of everything, not mockingbirds of the culture around us. But lets not dismiss the mockingbird just yet. They actually have their own song! Short chirps, warbles and tweets of their own that are mixed in with all of the other songs that they love to mimic.

This is an amazing description of the wonderful song we are to sing. It tells of the glory of the Lord and all of His goodness, but it has our song intertwined.

Revelation 12:11 says that we overcome in this world by both the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.

So sing out the song of the Lord with your testimony intertwined, making melodies in your heart. That song is a melody that nothing in this world can take away from you.
