Have you ever been there? Have you ever made a bad choice and all along you thought it was the right choice? But, as time and circumstances played out you realized it was a bad choice.

We’re all guilty.

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

Romans 8:14-15

The Holy Spirit communicates to our spirit. He doesn’t communicate to our intellect, and He doesn’t communicate to our emotions. That’s where most of us miss it. We tend to listen to what’s going on in this brain of ours, or we listen to what someone else said, or what somebody else had success with, or we get caught up in emotions.

Should I, or Shouldn’t I Principle

It’s one of those things where you’re running up against a decision and there’s usually only two choices.

Do I do this or do I not do this? We’ll run into those over and over and over again. Sometimes you think, “well, it’s just a little thing I can, you know, God gave me a brain, I might as well use it and I’ll just do what I think is right.”

Well, that’s probably one of the stupidest things you can do as a believer in Jesus Christ, especially when you have the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you. After all, you received the Holy Spirit in fullness when you accepted Jesus Christ as Lord. When you said, “Yes, Jesus, I want you to be Lord of my life,” the Holy Spirit came in.

Additionally, He came in and you did not get a baby Holy Spirit. You got the whole Holy Spirit and everything that He has is already in you. Everything you need is already inside you, there is nothing else. All that we need is going to come from within. EVERYTHING.

Being Sensitive to Our Own Spirit

However, we want to learn how to be led by the Holy Spirit, being sensitive to Him, and that requires being sensitive to our own spirit. We have to develop our own spirit man. Most importantly, He’s not coming around and talking to you in your head.

So, how does this work? You’re asking the Holy Spirit for direction, counsel or wisdom, and He is going to communicate to you in your spirit. Now, some of you might call that intuition. You just have a feeling, it just seems right. It’s not a bunch of words. It’s just, yeah, that’s right. After that happens, and you have that sense, then you can expect the Holy Spirit, through your spirit, to communicate understanding to your intellect.

It doesn’t start in your intellect, it is communicated from your spirit. It has to get here eventually or you’re not going to be able to communicate or, in any way, assimilate in this natural realm. The communication of the Holy Spirit does not start in your head. It’s not some lame brain thought that just comes flying by and you think, wow, that’s pretty good.

Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always].
