Forgiveness is two-fold. First it is an event. First, there is a volitional act of your will to choose to obey God’s command to forgive. Forgiveness begins with a single heartfelt choice. But secondly, forgiveness is also a process. There is process of working it all out in your emotions and walking it out in your actions. Your emotions are real and they are with you every hour of every day. It takes time and maturity to learn how to command your emotions to yield to your spirit. Just because you continue to deal with emotions concerning the person you’ve forgiven doesn’t always mean that you didn’t genuinely forgive. It could be that your emotions are not yet whole. Give them time.
