You ask [God for something] and do not receive it, because you ask with wrong motives [out of selfishness or with an unrighteous agenda], so that [when you get what you want] you may spend it on your [hedonistic] desires.
James 4:3
Jesus wants us to seek Him, and wait for Him to answer us. Is what we are asking really something that we know He would want for us? Is it part of His purpose for our life, or is it just a “want” that could actually get in the way of fulfilling Jesus’s plans? Yes, He is into the small things and the tiniest of details. But not everything that is desired is actually beneficial to us in the long run.
Jesus sees who we are today and He sees us in the future. He knows what we need and what is good for us. And, He knows what will cause us sorrow and pain. Too much of a good thing can be a bag thing. Sometimes when we get what we want we leave Jesus out of the picture as if we don’t need Him anymore. He ends up becoming less because the “thing” that was desired becomes more. Seek Jesus. He will not withhold anything from us that will help to fulfill our purpose and glorify Him.
