I heard a prayer of a pastor over a young woman declaring “The Lord has need of you!”
Of course my mind went to Luke 19:31 when Jesus told his disciples to go get a particular young donkey from a particular man, and if asked why they are taking it, to say “the Lord has need of it.”
Please let us remember that the context of the whole story begins with Jesus being drawn to Jerusalem, where He tossed the temple merchants’ tables and spent many days teaching in the temple porches. It is in this same time-frame, that Jesus and the boys came upon a fig tree that had not yet begun to bear fruit because it wasn’t its “season” to bear fruit.
There is an unsaid conversation between the fig tree and Jesus. The King James translation says “and in response, Jesus said…” In Mark 11:14 the tree and the donkey were both put in a position to “say” to the Master that they were not ready, or not capable of giving what was being asked of them.
The donkey said YES, while the fig tree talked doubt, fear and unbelief. Today, not tomorrow, when God asks something difficult of us, will we answer with a yes?
Remember, the flood stage Jordan River did not part for the children of Israel until the feet of the priests were already in the water. If God is for you, who can be against you.
God has need of you!
